WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: average

Weather conditions:

Early winter + severe weather 95/6. Then mild followed by hot May and June. Golden Plover probably on second broods. Much winder than in '86, '91. Force 11 recorded once.

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Breeding conditions:

Lamba: clear river fed by snowmelt from OK, a dormant volcano 10 k to southwest. Several waterfalls. Geita: Large waterfalls, then glacier river flows through 50 m deep gorge for 500 m before spilling out onto large gravel plain as braided river.

Summary of fauna studies:

Pair of whooper swans breeding 100 m outside our study area. App. 10 pairs Golden Plovers on our 1 sq. km study area regularly spotted during project work on geology, botany and limnology of the area. App. 2 pairs of Harlequin on Lamba breeding upstream from campsite. Regular evening flights up river. Breeding meadow pipits.
